Red Plum & Sour Cherry Galette with Pistachio Olive Oil Crumble

Greetings, dear meows!

I think the title literally speaks for itself. There are fruit pies, and then there are galettes. It’s basically a French style free formed pie that can be either sweet or savory.

Summer fruits are everywhere and I was asked to make some desserts for a tea party. And I knew I wanted to use plums and cherries. I always try to add a twist to things and that came through with the crumble.

Yummy Crumble!

The crumble has butter, flour, brown sugar, and chopped salted pistachios. I cut the butter into the flour and then drizzled in some lovely olive oil to create the right consistency and add an interesting flavor that really pulls the dessert together. I should mention that the butter I used was salted, which was intentional along with the pistachios. Sweet and salty are always a good match. And trust me… All the flavors came together wonderfully!

You can make your own pie crust of course, but I opted for the rolled up pie dough to save some time, since the fruit prep is slightly labor intensive since you need to pit the cherries and slice the plums. But always worth it. 😉

Le Galette!

The sweet and salty crunch from the crumble really elevated the experience of eating this. The plums were juicy and sweet, the cherries were nice and tart. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream and Fuhgehtaboutit! Serve warm or at room temperature and you are all set!
